The National Board Counseling Collective (NBCC) is a collaborative membership community for school counselor candidates of the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards process.
As someone who has gone through both initial and renewal certification, I remember how difficult it was to actually connect with school counselors for support and collaboration during the process. Both times, I found myself in National Boards groups filled with teachers. Although I could get some of my questions answered, no one really understood the process from a counseling perspective.
Because of this experience, I started writing blog posts in 2012 on the Savvy School Counselor blog to support counseling candidates. I have answered questions of many counselors over the years via email, and I coached a high school counselor through the process successfully.
I later created two Facebook groups for school counselors who are initial candidates and renewal candidates. Both of these pages are shared by the NBPTS on their website.
In 2022, I began thinking about ways to further assist school counselors with the national board process. After surveying members of the Facebook page, I decided that a counseling collective was the way to go.
In this collective, we will have consistent live collaboration sessions and small cohorts so that school counselor candidates have a place to brainstorm together and to share ideas and not feel so isolated in this process.
This is the Inaugural Year for the National Board Counseling Collective. This means I am implementing my ideas for the group while also taking suggestions and feedback from my founding members. Since beginning our sessions in October, we have met twice a month. Each session is one hour. So far, we have worked as a whole group, but creating cohorts is always an option in order to make sure the needs of all members are being met. Cohorts will be determined based on individual goals for the school year. Some monthly sessions will also include group coaching as needed.
The current rate is $24 monthly. We hope you'll consider joining us!
Participation in the National Board Counseling Collective does not guarantee National Board Certification. The collective is an avenue of support for all participants, and individual outcomes may vary based on each persons effort, written commentary, and video submissions.
